THE COURSE
The PRECURSOR Conservation Field School is a 2-weeks international course focusing on materials and techniques for the conservation and maintenance of cultural heritage structures as a tool for preventing seismic risk. It will take place from August 27th to September 7th 2018 at Cascina Cuccagna, a 17th century rural building located in the center of Milano, that in recent years has become a vibrant cultural venue, thanks to a an attentive conservation project.
PARTICIPANTS
Participation is open to international students and young professionals looking for a specializing working experience. Young scientists, such as MSc and PhD students, are strongly encouraged to apply too. The course is restricted to a maximum of 20 participants.
METHODOLOGY
The issue of maintenance of cultural heritage structures will be addressed through a comprehensive hands-on approach: participants will be guided by and work closely with a conservator-restorer. Additional experts will be invited to share insight on specific topics.

PROMOTERS
PRECURSOR is a program of activities related to the prevention of seismic risk in historic buildings organized by the research institution Politecnico di Milano, the international consulting company specializing in cultural Heritage HYDEA and the Milan association focusing on urban regeneration, Cascina Cuccagna.
BACKGROUND
PRECURSOR has been selected and financed by Fondazione Cariplo for the “Cultural Heritage at Risk 2018/20120” program. PRECURSOR has been conceived to raise awareness among stakeholders and the general public of the significant impact of conservation and maintenance best practices to prevent and reduce the seismic risk for cultural heritage.
COURSE FEE
750 euro. Early bird 10% discount for booking before 10th July (promo code: earlybirds) and for university students (promo code: university). The course fee includes: materials for the course; certificate of attendance; reduced prices for accommodation and meals at Cascina Cuccagna. Upon request, organizers can assist participants in booking a discounted room at Cascina Cuccagna Hostel “Foresteria Un posto a Milano”.
